* (ONE STAR)
“X-Men: First Class” recently came out, an excellent movie about a team of super-human crime fighters. So I thought it would be appropriate to write about its mirror opposite: ”Fantastic Four”.
This movie is badly made. Bad acting, effects, sets, camera work…just bad. And the story just feels…blah. Nothing really develops. We see them get their powers, and a bad dude gets some powers, and he laughs maniacally, then they fight, and then the credits start rolling and you run to your bathroom to throw up. Okay, that was an exaggeration.
But really, every hero’s true abilities and character aren’t revealed until they come up against something that challenges them, something truly sinister. The Super Villain! Batman has Joker, Superman has Doomsday (What? Doomsday killed Superman? Okay, the bald guy then). And what better super villain to challenge a team of four new super-heroes than Dr. Doom? Well, he would have been. I think they picked up the wrong Dr. Doom. The one I remember from comics and cartoons was one bad, ruthless, ultimately powerful, and resourceful dude! This movie wasted his character, as it did with most everything else. This movie also suffered by being PG, because if it had simply been a little more gritty, I maybe could have ignored how cheesy it was. Maybe.
The suits are pretty cool though. Yeah, I liked them. One star for the suits!
Got something to say? Go for it!
