With such Oscar-tempting fare as Moneyball and The Ides of March hitting theatres recently, it is obvious that we are wading into the outer waters of Oscar season, with the most hopeful films set to reach the silver screen as close to the end of the year as possible. (A film fresh on the minds of Academy voters proves much more successful than a long-forgotten early year release, no matter how great the film, generally speaking).

So, before we leave all of the mindless explosions, tiresome sequels (there are 27 so far!), cheesy lines, and gimmicks designed to make some extra summer cash for the studios (3D and Aromascope anyone?), let us take a look back at what this year has offered so far, and see if any of them are great enough to be remembered when it comes time for the Academy to put pen to paper.
