Wow, surprising because it was trashed by most and wasn’t even screened for the NY TIMES and LA TIMES critics; looks like a real meltdown.
I’m not surprised. Low-key cast, moderate hype and marketing campaign, a title that many (unfortunately) don’t know anything about, and it’s a horror film. Critics generally don’t like horror, and understandably so. But I embrace horror for all of the reasons they hate it, and I judge films by their genre and aspirations. I don’t pit every film against “The Godfather” and then decide how it ranks. “Chernobyl Diaries”, as a horror film, is quite good, and has many fresh elements that kept me watching intently! Thanks for the read!
On that note, may have to investigate! Many accuse it of exploiting a real-life tragedy, however.
