In 1980 the most prolific horror franchise was born. Ironically, this prolific series made its bucks on hacking, chopping, severing, and otherwise dispatching the lives of nearly everyone in the films. The franchise was, and is, “Friday the 13th“.
So popular and trenched into our society is “Friday the 13th”, that even children who haven’t seen it know what it is, and, more importantly, know who they need to be scared of: Jason Voorhees, the infamous hockey-mask-wearing, machete-toting behemoth of terror with an unquenchable desire for teenage death.
His story has been told in 12 films as of now, with more in the works. His weapons have included everything from hacksaws, to pitchforks, to bare-hands, to his trusty machete. His story has been told and discovered and re-evaluated in countless ways.
Jason Voorhees is one of the most recognizable horror icons in the world, and we’ve looked at his “bodies” of work through “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter”, which as we all know was anything but. So now let’s take a look at the Jason Voorhees on the other side of “The Final Chapter”, and all that has changed about the franchise since Paramount “killed him off” in “IV”…
