It all started exactly 37 years ago, on August 14th, 1975: “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” premiered in London, and it hasn’t stopped since. Feels like a bit of a time warp, huh? (Sorry.)
Yes, Jim Sharman’s infamous cult classic has been playing theatres nonstop since it opened so long ago. It has since developed one of the largest cult followings of any film, with people still lining up for midnight showings and interacting with the film in an incredibly complex scripted way that only the most seasoned and hard-core fans can perform without notes. Fans throw rice during the wedding scene and have a constant dialogue running parallel to the films’, among many other rites and rituals.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” tells the bizarre tale of newlyweds Brad and Janet, played by Barry Bostwick and a very young Susan Sarandon, who stumble upon a creepy old castle while experiencing car trouble in the rain. Once inside, they meet a wide cast of morbid characters, not the least of which is transsexual Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played by Tim Curry in a performance of a lifetime…
