Ladies and gentleman, ghosts and ghoulettes, living and the un-dead – the time has come forHalloween 2012. For those of us weird enough to enjoy movies that scare us so badly we have to sleep with the lights on for days, this month is one of the best. And this year’s Halloween line-up is looking exceptionally strong, offering both fresh scares and stand-by screams with four must-see horror films in theatres. See one or be brave and see them all, but you simply can’t miss this terrifying slate of horror cinema.

First up is the horror anthology “V/H/S“, which has been shocking audiences across the nation since its first red band trailer was released. The film tells the tale of a band of thieves who are hired by a mysterious third party to break into a man’s house and steal a valuable V/H/S tape. When they arrive however, they are faced with a dead body and a mountain of tapes to sort through. As they put tapes in the players to try and figure out the right one, we see what they see on the tapes, and each tape is more horrifying than the last. Told in a “found-footage” format and tackled by a team of up-and-coming horror directors (Ti West and Adam Wingard, anyone?), this film simultaneously breathes new life into the tired “found-footage” genre and resurrects the “anthology film” in terribly scary fashion. Werewolves, aliens, digital serial killers, hauntings and more – nothing is taboo in this can’t miss blast of gory genre fun! “V/H/S” hits limited theatres October 5th, and can be watched On Demand today.

The following week we get what may be the most anticipated and widely talked about original horror film of the year: Scott Derrickson’s “Sinister“. This chilling film tells the R-rated tale of a crime novelist in search of his latest story who stumbles upon a box of what appear to be snuff films, films that not only disturb him to his core but release an ancient demon upon him and his family. As the audience, we are submitted to plenty of these realistic home movies, which early screeners have cited as being just as scary and disturbing as the demon himself. “Sinister” is an adult horror film that doesn’t pull any punches or go for the obvious and generic. Ethan Hawke stars in what critics have said will “leave you shaking”. “Sinister” scares audiences nationwide on October 12th…
