**** (FOUR STARS)

Brilliant.  Simply Brilliant.

Horror fans who have not had the joy (or terror, I should say) of experiencing The Descent should drop what they are doing and watch this film.  I repeat, watch this film!

It is a rare horror film on many levels, and in a genre that embraces its mediocrity and lack of originality, a rare film is a wonderful thing indeed.  The film is a perfect blend of psychological horror, “gotcha!” horror, and of course there is a little of the old fashioned blood and guts.  Okay, a lot.

The film stars an all female cast, and they each have their quirks.  They each have their secrets, too. Here is a film that has characters that are more than victims, a story that has meaning, and is directed to perfection.  This is the rare horror film that you can actually discuss in film class for its merit.  Try it.

My review is done now, so go rent this instant horror classic from director Neil Marshall!
